Shu-Yu’s Bio
Flutist Shu-Yu Amy Hsiung, a native of Taiwan, began playing the flute at age twelve. Shu-Yu graduated Aletheia University in 2010. During her studies in Taiwan, she performed for many important occasions. Shu-Yu performed as a principal flutist for Aletheia University Flute Ensemble at an award ceremony for the previous President of Taiwan, Ying Jeou Ma.
Shu-Yu earned her master of Music degree in the studio of Artist Faculty member Keith Underwood at NYU Steinhardt in January 2016. She was a member of the NYU Concert Band from 2014-15, and has performed as both a section leader and piccoloist at NYU’s Frederick Loewe Theatre. During her time at NYU, she has performed with numerous chamber ensembles at Provincetown Playhouse and the Black Box. Additionally, Shu-Yu earned the solo flute position in the musical Crazy for You, presented at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2015.
With a keen interest in experiencing other kinds of flutes, Shu-Yu began to study Baroque flute with renowned Baroque flutist David Ross in April 2015. In March 2016, Shu-Yu was the second Baroque flutist in Saint Peter’s Baroque Orchestra and performed St. Matthew Passion. And in the same year, she studied with world-renowned Baroque Flutist Wilbert Hazelzet.
On January 24, 2017, Shu-Yu Hsiung was the solo flutist at the concert “Love of the Light” at Carnegie Hall.
